COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Eugene PD has partnered with Ideal Option to launch a peer support program that will station two navigators downtown on weekdays from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The service, funded by nearly $250K from the Community Safety Payroll Tax, will help homeless individuals access local social services.  KLCC
  • KLCC will host its 6th annual Strategies of Charitable Gift Planning information session on Thursday, Feb. 5, with financial experts discussing the 2026 Tax Bill and charitable giving tools. Participants may join via Zoom or in-person (limited space) and receive a packet (registration required) ahead of the event.  KLCC
  • Doug Koke, who owned QSL Print Communications in Springfield and championed the Ducks as a Harley-Davidson rider, died on New Year's Eve. The community and the University of Oregon remember his legacy as he is survived by his wife, children, and grandchildren.  KEZI

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Amazon bought an 85-acre parcel on Dec. 26 near the airport off Highway 99 for $2 million, confirming plans for a 320,000 sqft parcel-delivery warehouse. Consultants are securing needed permits (including wetlands-fill) while local residents worry about traffic and air pollution.  Eugene Weekly

CULTURE NEWS

  • Downtown Eugene's New Zone Gallery is running the Parking Meter Repair Art Project that replaces over 200 vandalized parking meters with miniature art displays after removing coin vault doors. Organizers aim to refresh more than 1,000 gutted meters — a creative effort to beautify the city.  KEZI

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The school district proposed cutting summer school, college readiness and online programs and consolidating admin roles to offset a $30 million gap. The School Board will vote next week on a plan that may eliminate up to 159 jobs — a move to control rising costs.  KLCC

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Lane County Emergency Management is seeking input from residents via a 15–20 minute online wildfire preparedness survey — available in English and Spanish — that is open until Jan. 30 to help improve community risk reduction efforts.  KLCC
  • City officials are planning to add bike lanes to Polk Street and they invite residents to share input at a meeting on Jan. 21 at 6:30 p.m. at the Faith Center on West 13th Ave — final design decisions are expected in spring.  KEZI
