- ➤ The Parks Dept is hosting a tree planting event on Monday from 9 a.m. to noon along the west bank of the Willamette River, with residents meeting at Maury Jacobs parking lot off Fir Lane and encouraged to RSVP online, bring gloves and water, and help plant Big Leaf Maple, White Alder, Madrone, White Oak and Cascara trees. - ➤ The Eugene Public Library Foundation started the Love Your Library Design Contest on Jan. 16 at the downtown library — an exhibition runs through February and a reception is set for Feb. 6 at 4 p.m. Entries are due by March 27, with winners announced April 25. KEZI
- ➤ In 2024, Lane County apologized for bulldozing Ferry Street Village on Aug. 24, 1949 to make way for the Ferry Street Bridge, a move that displaced Black families (and left lasting community impact). A permanent monument is planned at Alton Baker Park. KVAL

- ➤ Mt. Ashland Ski Area paused operations indefinitely on Jan. 15 due to warm weather and low snowfall forecasts, while other resorts such as Timberline and Mt. Hood also face thinning snow bases that could risk a $200M winter recreation market. NBC 16
