COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ On Monday, over 1,000 attendees braved cold weather to join a combined MLK march that began at Autzen Stadium and ended at the Shedd Institute (organized by local groups including the NAACP) to unite separate Eugene and Springfield events. KLCC
- ➤ Residents say the city's resources for addressing homelessness and panhandling are not enough, leaving basic needs like food, shelter & care unmet. The City Council is asking for public feedback as the community explores ways to better support vulnerable residents. KEZI
- ➤ Egan warming centers activated yesterday in Eugene and remain on standby today through Saturday to provide emergency shelter for residents. KVAL
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ KLCC broadcast the opening concert live from The Shedd Institute on Jan. 21 with a 7:00 p.m. pre-show and a 7:30 p.m. main performance featuring Chuck Redd and the festival jazz unit honoring French jazz roots; the Oregon Festival of American Music runs through Jan. 25 in downtown Eugene. KLCC

- ➤ Residents gathered outside the Springfield School District office Wednesday to support 27 teachers set to lose their jobs by month’s end amid a $2.3M budget shortfall. Community members and parents met with educators to spotlight revenue gaps & lower enrollment that led to the cuts. KVAL
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Sen. Wyden held a roundtable on Wednesday at Planned Parenthood’s Eugene-Springfield Health Center (where he outlined challenges like reduced Medicaid revenue and rising premiums) and expects reforms to support telemedicine and community health centers to be considered before year’s end. KLCC
- ➤ Oregon Parks and Recreation is seeking public input on draft drone rules for state parks and beaches before summer. Feedback is welcome until Feb. 15 while the agency refines zones and a possible pass system for drone users (the online hearing took place on Jan. 20 at 5 p.m.). KLCC
