- ➤ Members of the Eugene Springfield NAACP mourn Reverend Jesse Jackson, who died Tuesday at age 84 — leaders recalled his civil rights work inspired local activism and said his legacy remains in ongoing community efforts. KLCC
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Hult Center is partnering with MEPAA for the Instruments for All drive to collect used musical instruments to support local students. Donations may be dropped off at the Hult Center (Community Corner lobby) or at 2370 Parliament St until March 14, when a free event will offer instrument vouchers. KEZI
- ➤ Local comics scholar Dr. Andréa Gilroy will launch the Comics College lecture series at the Eugene Public Library on Feb. 28 at 3 p.m. The free series will explore comics history from its artistic roots to censorship and global impact over the next four months. KLCC
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Department of Revenue began sending tax refunds for electronically filed returns, processing over 500,000 since Wednesday, Feb. 18 — most taxpayers will receive refunds within two weeks while paper filers will see payments start in April. NBC 16
- ➤ State tax refunds are heading out for electronically filed returns after processing over 500,000 so far, & most taxpayers will get theirs within two weeks while paper filings begin in April, the Department of Revenue said. KVAL
- ➤ The Bureau of Land Management is seeking public feedback on proposed updates to manage 2.5 million acres of timberlands in western Oregon (supporting local services) and comments may be submitted by email or via the NEPA Register until Mar. 23. KEZI
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ On Feb. 17, Eugene Emergency Physicians released an open letter saying they will keep serving local patients after PeaceHealth ended a 35-year partnership and that all 41 doctors signed an agreement to refuse ApolloMD for 90 days—aiming to preserve local emergency care. KLCC
- ➤ Eugene residents are invited to vote online + share their views on whether the local emergency department provides adequate care. The poll is now open to help guide future improvements in hospital services. KVAL
