ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Oregon gas prices remain high on Monday as oil prices (briefly reaching $119 per barrel) push the state average to $4.205, above the national average of $3.478; AAA advises drivers to follow maintenance guidelines to boost fuel efficiency. NBC 16
- ➤ GasBuddy data released Monday shows Eugene drivers paying an average of $4.05 per gallon after prices rose 21.1 cents in a week—prices are 65.5 cents higher than a month ago and 47.1 cents above last year. NBC 16
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Bethel School District students will receive free library cards from Eugene Public Library this month, giving over 4,800 K-12 students access to e-books, audiobooks and streaming content. Cards will renew each school year automatically to support ongoing learning. KEZI
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Eugene has implemented new speed limits along several residential streets, including Polk, Oak Patch, Elmira, and Maple, to boost safety with added traffic calming measures like crosswalks. Remaining sign updates will be completed throughout the week. KEZI
- ➤ After 8 years of service with LCSO, K9 Hektor retired after more than 200 deployments. The dog helped catch bad guys and now will enjoy plenty of belly rubs + relaxing on the couch. KVAL
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Dr. Pilar Bradshaw from Eugene Pediatric Associates advises parents to call their child’s doctor first for non-life-threatening issues like minor burns or earaches, as the ER may have long waits. The pediatric office is equipped to assess and treat kids (helping avoid delays in care) when needed. NBC 16
- ➤ Lane County Behavioral Health will take over youth mobile crisis and stabilization services from Riverview Center for Growth starting April 30. The move aims to provide uninterrupted 7-day coverage for about 400 clients & respond to 6-8 calls daily amid ongoing budget constraints. NBC 16
- ➤ ApolloMD replied to lawmakers about Senate Bill 951 compliance amid staffing changes at PeaceHealth ERs and said it will back a new physician-owned practice serving Sacred Heart, Peace Harbor and Cottage Grove hospitals. Transition planning began in early February; agreements are expected before June 1 & July 1 service dates. NBC 16
