- ➤ The Eugene Parks Volunteer Program and Eugene Metro Rotary are hosting a spring cleanup at Amazon Creek on Saturday, March 22 from 9-11 a.m.—volunteers can join at the bike path near the Oakpatch Road bridge as the tradition since 2011 continues to remove trash and build community stewardship. - ➤ Lane County Health and Human Services and First Christian Church ask local residents to donate essential items to help homeless people stay safe as the weather turns. A donation drive will be held on March 21, 2025 from 1 p.m. — 5 p.m. at First Christian Church with additional drop-off hours on weekdays. KVAL
- ➤ Lane Transit District reached a tentative agreement with the Eugene Family YMCA to sell nearly 5 acres of land at the corner of River Road and Hunsaker Lane for a new location serving northside neighborhoods. The deal provides for $1 million at closing, $1 million after one year and the balance after two years—this includes a due diligence period for environmental and feasibility checks. KEZI

- ➤ On Thursday night, a panel hosted by the Junior League met in Eugene to address human trafficking after nearly 500 victims called the National Human Trafficking Hotline in 2023—experts stressed that law enforcement and community agencies must work together. KVAL
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ University of Oregon is among 45 schools under investigation by the U.S. Department of Education for an alleged Title VI violation after partnering with The PhD Project — a nonprofit that limits doctoral opportunities by race. The probe began on March 14th and may result in a loss of federal funding if the claims are confirmed. KEZI
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On March 14th, the Eugene Chamber of Commerce announced it had collected over 8,400 signatures for a referendum on a new fire fee; now the Lane County Elections Office has two weeks (until March 29th) to confirm at least 5,817 signatures are valid. If the referendum makes the ballot, the fee cannot be collected at the start of the July budget year, which risks cutting $8 million in funding for public services and firefighter recruitment. KLCC
