CULTURE NEWS

  • The U of O’s Museum of Natural and Cultural History displays ancient sandals—recovered from eastern Oregon caves—that are believed to be among the world's oldest footwear. The exhibit shows Oregon’s long history in making and wearing shoes from nearly 10,000 years ago to today.  KVAL
  • Visitors to the University of Oregon Museum of Natural and Cultural History can view what is called the world's oldest shoes (ancient sandals found in dry caves that date to over 7,000 years) as part of the museum's historical footwear display.  NBC 16

EDUCATION NEWS

  • University of Oregon proposes tuition increases for the 2026–27 academic year with in-state undergrad fees rising 4.5% and out-of-state fees rising 3% while graduate fees vary (only new students starting fall 2026 will be affected). University officials say the proposal addresses rising operational costs and inflation pressures.  KVAL

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Lane County officials warn that intentional coyote feeding at Mt. Pisgah is causing animals to become more comfortable around people (an unsafe trend that could lead to further euthanizations). Officials urge visitors to keep their distance and follow park rules.  KEZI
  • PeaceHealth will change emergency department staffing to ApolloMD (with 43 years of experience) on June 1 and July 1 in Lane County after Governor Kotek raised concerns about potential understaffing and transparency, prompting legislators to request a state review to secure enough local doctors.  NBC 16

HEALTH NEWS

  • Governor Kotek is worried that PeaceHealth’s planned switch from Eugene Emergency Physicians to ApolloMD for emergency staffing on June 1 and July 1 may cause disruptions, while several state legislators request a review of the change. PeaceHealth will update details soon — watchers say staffing must remain steady.  KVAL
