ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ On March 18, Lane County deputies said a silver 2004 Nissan Frontier failed to stop at a stop sign and collided with a red 2006 Kenworth log truck on Prairie Road at Irvington Road in north Eugene — severely injuring the pickup truck’s driver while the log truck’s driver remained uninjured. - ➤ Lane County deputies said 64-year-old Kerry Marnell Carsh was arrested on March 18 at a home on Bailey Hill Road after he allegedly hit a man with a pool cue then shot him with a pellet gun when the victim grabbed a knife—he now faces charges including second-degree assault, menacing, coercion, unlawful use of a weapon, and felony possession of methamphetamine. - ➤ On March 18th, Lane County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to an assault at a home on Bailey Hill Road and arrested 64-year-old Kerry Marnell Carsh after he allegedly struck a resident with a pool cue, tried to tie him up with wire, and shot the man with a pellet gun when the victim defended himself with a knife—Carsh was hospitalized and now faces charges including assault in the 2nd degree and menacing. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The University of Oregon's faculty union, United Academics, said in a March 20 press release that it plans to strike as soon as March 31 over fair compensation after yearlong bargaining sessions failed to secure a fair contract. The planned strike—its first at UO—could impact classes for over 20,600 undergraduates and nearly 3,900 graduates. Eugene Weekly
- ➤ The University of Oregon faculty union said more than 1,800 faculty members are ready to strike on March 31 if contract talks fail. University officials said they are working to reach a deal that fairly pays both full time and part time workers and keeps the school financially stable. KVAL
- ➤ Local partners including the Chamber of Commerce, Onward Eugene, Quality Care Connections, Lane Community College, Head Start of Lane County and New Dream Family Center have planned an apprenticeship program for early childhood educators that offers on-the-job training, coursework from ProSolutions Training and Quality Care Connections, mentorship and career coaching—designed to address the local educator shortage—set to launch soon. - ➤ Springfield residents will face traffic delays downtown over the weekend because crews are fully rebuilding Mill Street between Centennial Boulevard and A Street. On March 22, officials plan to shut down the traffic signals at Main and Mill as utility workers move power lines—traffic lights may remain off for the entire weekend. KEZI
- ➤ Oregon lawmakers introduced HB 3940 — a bipartisan wildfire funding bill that packages options from a work group to include a bottle surcharge, insurer tax adjustments, and reserve shifts to support fire prevention and suppression. The bill was proposed Tuesday by Reps. John Lively and Bobby Levy and may be revised before a special House committee meeting in early April as legislators work to secure sufficient funding. KLCC
