COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Daniels family is the first to move into the new Lazy Days housing development in Blue River after losing their home in the Holiday Farm Fire; they celebrated their new home while facing the tough challenge of caring for 18-year-old Jamie, who was diagnosed with a rare terminal brain tumor (Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma).  KEZI
  • City Club of Eugene will host a chat this Friday, March 28 where local author Bill Sullivan will explore the history of Oregon journalism and discuss past political divides in news reporting. The talk will be live streamed for those who cannot attend in person.  KVAL
  • The Friends of Eugene Public Library will hold its annual benefit book sale on April 12 and April 13 at the Lane Events Center Performance Hall—shoppers can browse thousands of gently used books, DVDs, and other items while proceeds support library programs. The sale runs Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.  KVAL

CRIME NEWS

  • On Monday, March 24, Springfield police arrested 34 people during a retail theft operation that recovered more than 150 stolen items worth nearly $3,000—recovered items were later returned to their rightful owners.  KVAL
  • Law enforcement uncovered an illegal drug manufacturing operation at Terry and Arrowsmith Street around 8:30 a.m. today, arrested a suspect, and assured the public there is no threat to safety—officials are continuing the investigation.  KVAL

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Maude Kerns Art Center is hosting ‘Beyond the Print,’ an exhibit featuring works by local artists Mika Aono, Tallmadge Doyle, Sarah Grew, Julia Oldham and Libby Wadsworth. The exhibit opens with a public reception on Friday, April 4th from 5—7 p.m. and will be on view until May 2nd with an Artist Talk on Saturday, April 19th from 2—3 p.m. at 1910 E. 15th Avenue.  NBC 16
  • The Eugene Saturday Market will begin its 2025 season on April 5 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 8th Ave. and Oak St.—offering handcrafted art, international food, live music, a prize bingo hunt, and a coronation for S.L.U.G. Queen at about 12:30 p.m.—and continues a community tradition since 1970.  NBC 16
  • The hit Broadway musical Hamilton opened on March 25th at the Hult Center in Eugene and will run for two weeks with 16 shows. South Eugene High School alum Simon Longnight performs as Marquis De Lafayette and Thomas Jefferson—tickets are selling fast and the run ends on April 6th.  KEZI

  • A Lane County nonprofit said the House passed a budget resolution last month that could lead to Medicaid cuts hurting people with disabilities. The Arc of Lane County urges lawmakers to protect these supports before any changes take effect—lawmakers in the Senate must act next.  KVAL
