- ➤ FOOD For Lane County's Chef's Night Out—its 33rd year—will take place on April 7 from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Lane Events Center. Over 50 local purveyors will offer small bites and all proceeds will support the nonprofit's mission to create food access while attendees vote for the People's Choice award. KVAL
- ➤ White Bird Clinic announced that due to a budget shortfall CAHOOTS will reduce its crisis intervention team to seven employees and one shift a week starting after April 7. Local crisis workers warn that the cuts will strain police and community services—contract negotiations and funding searches are ongoing. KVAL

- ➤ On Thursday morning, police arrested 18-year-old Cody Robert Smith in the 2100 block of Amirante Street after a dispute on March 25 led to shots being fired—he now faces charges including attempted assault, unlawful use of a weapon, menacing, and bias crime. NBC 16
- ➤ On March 24, Springfield Police Department arrested 34 people in an 8-hour retail theft operation that recovered about $3,000 in stolen items from nine locations+ it partnered with loss prevention staff from 13 local businesses+ to counter organized theft. KVAL
- ➤ At about 1:30 p.m. on March 25 a deputy tracked a stolen Scion xB SUV to Cottage Grove using GPS; after the suspect crashed the vehicle and fled on foot, authorities quickly arrested the 28-year-old—Austin Taylor Williams—who now faces charges for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and related offenses. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The Oregon Health Authority said that prescriptions under the DWDA increased from 561 to 607 between 2023 and 2024 while deaths from these medications decreased from 386 to 376—most patients were over 65, white and had cancer. The report shows that concerns about loss of autonomy and dignity continue to guide end‐of‐life decisions. NBC 16
