COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A Lane County nonprofit—Beds of Faith—is seeking volunteers to set up travel-friendly cots and distribute supplies for people experiencing homelessness. Organizer Delilah Fischer said volunteers will unbox and assemble beds based on the crew’s schedule and help support a movement to extend services statewide.  KEZI
  • Lane County Housing and Community Action has launched a 2026 Community Needs Survey to gather feedback on essential services such as housing, shelter, education, employment, transportation and health available online until May 16. The survey takes about 10 to 15 minutes to complete and is offered in English + Spanish.  KVAL

CULTURE NEWS

  • A new monument honoring Eugene’s founding Black families was revealed ahead of its planned installation in Alton Baker Park this fall — the site marks where residents were displaced in 1949 and will become one of the largest public monuments dedicated to local Black history. City leaders see the installation as a step toward recognizing past challenges and uniting the community.  KEZI
  • The Oregon Heritage Tree Program marks its 30th year by designating 85 heritage trees in 26 counties statewide, including Eugene’s historic Owen Cherry tree planted by Skinner. Communities are invited to nominate trees during Arbor Month (in April) to share underrepresented local history.  NBC 16

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Local moving companies in Eugene face high fuel costs that force them to adjust prices and explore electric trucks while city officials plan to use reserve funds for rising fuel expenses in their two-year budget; Pro Movers intends to bring its electric fleet from California, despite strict state pricing rules.  KEZI

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Free tax filing help is available through Oct. 15 for young workers and low-income earners who may be missing out on refunds. Community partners including OSU Extension Service and local high schools offer IRS-certified assistance with services provided in English + Spanish.  NBC 16

HEALTH NEWS

  • PeaceHealth will open a new inpatient rehabilitation hospital near PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center in Springfield by Oct. 1, moving current patients from Riverbend Hospital to reduce emergency wait times — the 67,000 sqft facility will feature 42 beds and Oregon’s first traumatic brain injury unit.  KEZI
  • PeaceHealth Oregon will open a $80 million inpatient rehabilitation hospital adjacent to RiverBend in Springfield on Aug. 25. The facility — developed with LifePoint Rehabilitation — will add 42 beds, cut wait times, and ease transfers by Oct. 1.  KVAL
