- ➤ On Thursday morning, ESF responded to a potential gas leak at 525 High Street in Eugene by evacuating a six-occupancy building and coordinating with Northwest Natural, Eugene Water and Electric Board, and the police — crews ventilated the building over 90 minutes. KVAL

- ➤ Sip and Seams is hosting a pop-up shop in Eugene that lets shoppers buy designer clothing at low prices and consign their own items. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Darren Lee Woods, 57, was sentenced on March 19 to seven and a half years in prison after he shot an unknown man on Kelso Street in April 2021, fled the scene, and was later captured driving nearly 90 mph on the road to Reno—court records show the victim was permanently disabled. KEZI
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Eugene will hold National Dance Week — a week of dance events from April 18 to 27 that will offer free showcases at the Farmers Market Pavilion and lunchtime performances at Kesey Square. Dance classes, workshops and online sessions will provide residents with opportunities to join performances and learn new steps. City of Eugene
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The University of Oregon said an international student's visa was cancelled on March 28 due to unspecified criminal charges — officials were not notified in advance. The student must leave the country within 15 days unless another legal option is found while the university works to assist. KEZI
- ➤ Officials in Eugene received Safe Routes to School grants that will help create a safety plan for 30th Avenue and Camas Ridge Community School on the south side. A community meeting on April 2nd discussed safe routes for walking, biking, and rolling—additional grants for other schools are under review. KEZI
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On April 30, the city manager will present Eugene's proposed budget to the city council and budget committee to address an $11.5 million deficit that partly follows a $10 million fire fee approved to support the fire department. City officials will hold public comment meetings on May 14, May 21, and May 28 before adopting the budget on June 23. NBC 16
