COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ The Friends of the Library are holding their annual book sale this weekend at the Lane Events Center in Eugene where about 30,000 donated books priced at $2 or less will be available. The event, which has run since 1979, will run on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.—with proceeds benefiting the library’s materials and programs. KLCC
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Firefighters responded at 10:20 a.m. on April 10 and used handheld fire extinguishers to put out a fryer fire at Dari Market in Pleasant Hill—store employees acted quickly to limit damage despite the building’s fire suppression system not fully controlling the blaze. KEZI
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Hop Valley Brewing will shut down production in July as announced by Tilray Brands. The local taproom and pilot brew system will remain open while brewing will move to 10 Barrel in Bend or Widmer Brothers in Portland. KEZI
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Jeffrey Alan Voss, 31 from Eugene, was sentenced to 5 years probation after he posted violent threat videos online in which he held a firearm and compared himself to Kip Kinkel—he was arrested following a 9-1-1 call on a Facebook Live video that placed him near Springfield High School. KVAL
- ➤ Lane County man Darren Woods was sentenced to 90 months in prison for shooting a longtime resident returning home on April 16, 2021 at a property near Eugene — his trial had been delayed by COVID court schedules and escape attempts, and the victim now lives with permanent injuries. KVAL
- ➤ On April 10 at about 6:45 a.m., Springfield police responded to a crash on Gateway Street when a white 2015 Chrysler 300 struck a power pole near Postal Way—39-year-old Nichole Taylor, who had a blood alcohol level nearly seven times the legal limit and a suspended license, was charged with reckless driving, driving under the influence and driving with a suspended license. - ➤ Thirteen OSU international students had their visas revoked after an OSU spokesperson said federal officials did not provide a reason. Students with revoked visas have two weeks to remain in the country unless they secure another legal option+at least 20 international students statewide have been affected, including four at the University of Oregon.
