ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ A coalition of sustainability groups will host Re-Imagine Earth Day on Sunday, April 19 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Farmers Market Pavilion at 85 East 8th Avenue — the celebration will feature local performances and eco-friendly vendors. KEZI
- ➤ House Bill 4134, signed on April 9, increased funds for Oregon ranchers to use nonlethal wolf deterrents and for compensation for livestock losses. Conservationists (including Cascadia Wildlands) point to ecological benefits while some farmers remain concerned as wolf populations grow, including the Indigo pack in Lane County. Eugene Weekly
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Internal emails obtained by PeaceHealth show that RiverBend’s Dr. Jim McGovern pressured physicians to discharge patients early and withhold essential diagnostics; PeaceHealth will put him on administrative leave Friday. KVAL
- ➤ After a February Teen Health Expo at North Eugene High provided free heart screenings to nearly 100 students, PeaceHealth volunteers reported many were flagged for follow-up care (about 40 students), and officials now plan a similar event at Churchill High School. The screenings may help catch heart risks in teens. NBC 16
- ➤ Gov. Tina Kotek criticized an oral ruling that found part of the Reproductive Health Equity Act unconstitutional, saying the decision threatens cost-free care. The state will review the written opinion and take legal measures to protect access to reproductive health care. NBC 16
- ➤ Family members are arranging a medical flight (cost to exceed $100,000) for Stefanie Lemoigne, who is in intensive care in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico after a seizure. They are collecting donations through a GoFundMe and a community donation account to help cover the costs. KEZI
