- ➤ St. Vincent de Paul opened the Schlies Resource Center on Highway 99 in Eugene on Friday to give nonprofits a hub for services to the unhoused. - ➤ The brush fire near Mohawk started Friday during a permitted burn at a Westfir residence and jumped a railroad track into a dense forest near Edgehill Road. Officials report the fire is now contained and no evacuations were issued. NBC 16

- ➤ City Manager Sarah Medary will present the City’s 2025 to 2027 Proposed Budget to the Eugene Budget Committee on April 30 at 5:30 p.m. An amended budget addressing an $11.5 million annual gap will be released on April 25 after the planned Fire Service Fee was referred to the ballot. - ➤ The City of Eugene, HIV Alliance and Square-One Villages are launching a micro-safe sleep site called Rainbow Corner to help unhoused residents who use HIV Alliance services—its six-unit design offers pallet shelters, community spaces, a kitchen, and facilities for showers and restrooms while providing secure storage for medications. Built with private funds on city property, the facility will open soon. KEZI
- ➤ The Oregon Health Authority warns pet owners that harmful algae blooms in local lakes and rivers may make dogs very sick due to cyanobacteria growth in warm weather—if pets show symptoms like diarrhea, vomiting, breathing problems, difficulty walking or loss of appetite, they should be taken to the vet right away. - ➤ The Oregon Health Authority launched a new reporting tool to track toxic cyanobacteria in freshwater bodies after reports of possible dog illnesses emerged.
