ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A school bus and a log truck collided just before 9:00 a.m. on April 28th at the intersection of West 11th Ave and Greenhill Road in Eugene— the truck’s turn sent a log into the bus windshield, giving the driver minor scrapes while the two children on board stayed unharmed. KVAL
- ➤ On Monday morning, Eugene Springfield Fire responded to a high intensity structure fire on Scenic Drive at 11:30 a.m.—crews used defensive tactics because of heavy flames and limited access and sent one occupant to a local hospital with minor injuries. KVAL
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The University of Oregon student workers union went on strike Monday after contract talks failed, with more than 100 picketers gathering on campus and staffing shortages warned across some services. The union representing about 4,000 workers is demanding higher wages, a third-party review for harassment grievances, and shorter pay periods—while the university said it will maintain services and is meeting again on Wednesday. - ➤ Rideshare drivers from Eugene and Portland traveled to Salem for a hearing on driver rights. They rallied as part of Drivers Union Oregon and urged lawmakers to require fair pay and earned sick leave—steps to protect workers classified as independent contractors. KVAL
- ➤ CAHOOTS workers plan to rebuild the crisis response service in Eugene—seeking new partners and funds—after the program stopped 20 days ago when the City and White Bird Clinic ended its contract; they are looking to form an independent nonprofit to gain more control over funding as local residents and city leaders confront tight budgets. - ➤ KEZI 9 News meteorologist Holden LeCroy and anchor Jennifer Singh joined thousands at the Eugene Marathon where they ran the 13.1-mile half in under two hours fifteen minutes—runners were spaced out for safety.
