CRIME NEWS

  • Eugene police arrested four individuals for vandalism, disorderly conduct, and blocking traffic during a protest on May 2 near Campbell Community Center in the Market District.  KEZI
  • Early Monday morning, police responded to a stabbing at a downtown Eugene convenience store on W 7th Avenue — a man with a stab wound to his lower back was taken to the hospital with serious injuries as the investigation continues.  KVAL

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices in Eugene dropped by about 10 cents to an average of $3.73 per gallon over the past week—GasBuddy surveyed 78 stations in the area and noted a 12.9-cent drop from last month. Analysts point to an OPEC+ plan to increase production in June that could boost supply further, even as national prices trend upward.  KVAL

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The intersection of Roosevelt Boulevard and Chambers Street has been closed to turns since May 5 as the City of Eugene directs drivers to follow detours that lead them onto Second Avenue, Garfield Street, and back to Roosevelt Boulevard—construction for a seismic retrofit is expected to begin next week despite previous delays.  NBC 16

SPORTS NEWS

  • Oregon’s Ducks dominated a five-inning game to win the Big Ten title in their first season as conference members, scoring 14 to 0 after a strong start marked by two home runs from Rylee McCoy. Head coach Melyssa Lombardi praised the team’s performance+ noting that this win is their first conference title since the PAC-12 in 2018.  KVAL
  • At Marshfield High School, senior Bodey Lutes broke a track record on May 2 by finishing the 800-meter dash in 1:53.00—beating former record holder Steve Prefontaine’s time of 1:53.8. The achievement comes two months before the Prefontaine Classic at Hayward Field on July 5.  KEZI
  • John Oliver referenced the Eugene Emeralds' Exploding Whale merchandise and KATU’s footage of a whale explosion from November 12 on his latest Last Week Tonight episode—he explained how the creative rebranding boosts the team’s profile and revenue in minor league baseball.  KVAL
