- ➤ At the Very Little Theatre, audiences see Misery—an adapted story from Stephen King's book that inspired the 1990 film—in a small room that looks like a backwoods cabin. Director Adam Leonard said the play began on May 9 and will run until May 25 and that its mix of funny and scary moments may bring new theatergoers. KLCC

- ➤ Groundwater springs in Eugene sometimes flow above ground and produce green or orange slime from oxidizing minerals and iron bacteria that make streets look unusual. City crews partially captured the water using a perforated pipe and continue to look for a lasting solution—residents are encouraged to call the City if pollution is suspected. City of Eugene
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The proposed Eugene budget cuts include ending the $400,000 Greenhill Humane Society contract—eliminating the city’s Animal Services program that cares for stray and injured animals. Greenhill staff and local residents worry the change will remove trained animal welfare officers and risk public safety, with a final decision to be made by the Budget Committee and City Council on Monday, May 12. - ➤ The City of Eugene faces a $23M deficit over the next two years as officials work to protect essential services while evaluating service and staff cuts. A Budget Committee meeting next Wednesday will allow public comment—City officials noted that funds set aside for the new City Hall were not linked to the deficit. NBC 16

- ➤ The Coquille Tribe held a ribbon cutting on Friday for its new opioid treatment center in Eugene—Ko-kwel Wellness Center—designed to fight overdoses in Lane County.
