- ➤ An outdoor homeless shelter in south Eugene now has running water, electricity, and sewer hookups and is set to reopen by the end of this month under new oversight. Board member Norma Grier said the upgrades—made possible by the City of Eugene, EWEB, and local donors—will vastly improve living conditions for up to 20 residents. KVAL
- ➤ Eugene Parks and Recreation and Willamalane in Springfield are selling the 1Pass—an offer for kids under 18 to access 14 local summer recreation spots including bowling alleys and pools—for $60. The passes are available for pick-up from Monday, May 19 on a first-come first-served basis and valid from June 17 through September 1. KEZI
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Eugene Police arrested Miranda Renee Wilcox, a 59-year-old HR and Payroll specialist at Homes For Good, after investigating financial irregularities first reported in September that revealed a loss of about $560,000—she was interviewed and arrested on May 14 and now faces multiple felony charges including aggravated theft, identity theft, computer crime and forgery. - ➤ A man who was shot while trying to rob a convenience store on Commons Drive in October pleaded guilty to attempted second-degree robbery and was sentenced to 4 years and 6 months in prison — he used a realistic bb gun — and he will remain in custody until transferred to Coffee Creek Correctional Facility, records show. - ➤ Morgan Christopher Immesoete pleaded guilty to second-degree arson for starting a fire in his room at the Valley River Inn (which caused significant damage and risked guest safety) and received an 18-month prison sentence (with 2 years of post-prison supervision). KEZI

- ➤ Oregon lawmakers approved a bill Tuesday that will let some therapists, doctors and other care providers lead psilocybin therapy sessions without punishment from state boards—new rules include labeling requirements for psilocin and tougher background checks, and the bill now awaits Gov. - ➤ Hayward Field hosted the Big Ten Track and Field Championships starting Friday when seventeen Big Ten teams competed as the event took place for the first time at the historic venue—around 1,000 athletes participated, with more than 1,000 local middle school students attending Friday and 3,000 kids expected on Sunday, and early figures show a $1.25 million boost for the area. Other sports events, including UO’s softball regionals and local races, are also set for this busy weekend. KLCC
- ➤ Thurston High School's Macy Taylor became the first Oregon girl to sign a national letter of intent for a collegiate flag football team when she signed on Thursday to play both flag football and soccer at Ferrum College—marking a historic step for the sport in the state.
