- ➤ After nine years of closure, Carmen-Smith recreation sites have reopened along the Upper McKenzie River for camping, hiking, and day visits. - ➤ The University of Oregon and the Port of Portland celebrated construction progress on the Oregon Acoustic Research Laboratory during a beam-signing celebration at Terminal 2 on May 27. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Springfield Public Schools board member Nicole De Graff announced her resignation during Tuesday's executive session amid backlash over teacher layoffs. Her last day is June 30, and the district will soon inform employees which positions will be cut (33 full-time equivalent positions, including 12 teachers). KVAL
- ➤ Lane County is cutting 30 emergency shelter beds from Carry It Forward and ShelterCare due to a $5.8 million reduction for Health and Human Services for the 2026-27 fiscal year. County officials said the move follows expired grants and lower state funding — most shelter beds remain stable. NBC 16
- ➤ Oregon has appealed FEMA’s decision to deny Hazard Mitigation Grant Program funding after December storms caused severe flooding, landslides, and power outages in many counties; state officials say the funds are needed to repair infrastructure and bolster future preparedness. KVAL
