- ➤ On June 1st, a fire on Shady Loop in Springfield was quickly knocked down by Eugene Springfield Fire crews who extinguished flames, conducted an overhaul, and confirmed an all-clear after a neighbor's call — firefighters saved a neighboring house and reported no injuries while the cause remains under investigation. - ➤ On Sunday, June 1, just after 1:30 p.m., Eugene Springfield Fire responded to a call when a vehicle plunged into the Willamette River near Beltline and firefighters rescued the trapped woman, who was then taken for medical evaluation — the operation was supported by a drone and Search & Rescue teams. - ➤ City officials say the quiet zone plan to reduce loud train horns at downtown crossings is stalled by delays with Union Pacific and pending federal permits—construction may not start soon.
