- ➤ Lane Council of Governments has opened registration for the sixth annual 0.5K fun run to raise funds for the Senior Meals Program serving older adults in Lane County. Competitors will race 0.5K on Sunday, Aug. 2 at noon at PublicHouse in Springfield & receive a T-shirt, medal, and sticker. KVAL
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Springfield Public Schools has named three finalists for its interim superintendent search: Michael Carter, Dr. Kimberlee Pelster, & John Stover, who will be interviewed by stakeholder groups on June 9. KVAL
- ➤ Middle schoolers in Lane County raced student built electric vehicles in a battery powered challenge hosted by EWEB as part of a science curriculum project; they learned about energy, aerodynamics and friction while working together. The event showcased teamwork and problem solving among the students. NBC 16
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Reopened after a nine-year closure, camping and day-use areas along the Upper McKenzie River by Carmen-Diversion, Smith, and Trail Bridge Reservoirs are now accessible following a $10.8 million EWEB renovation. Upgrades include modern bathrooms and an improved ramp for boating, which officials say will boost local tourism (Rep. Harbick). KLCC

- ➤ The City of Eugene closed the Skinner Butte summit parking lot yesterday since fire risk is high. Motorized vehicles are banned on the summit road until sometime in October although pedestrians and cyclists can still use the trails. NBC 16
- ➤ Staff from the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Oregon donated over 2,000 items to food pantries in Eugene, Portland & Medford as part of Freedom 250; the Portland office provided 600+ pounds to Neighborhood House and the Eugene office delivered nearly 500 pounds to FOOD for Lane County. - ➤ Lane County Economic Development urged local employers to review emergency plans, insurance coverage & prepare for potential wildfire impacts amid dry winter conditions and low mountain snowpack.
