- ➤ Springfield Mayor Sean VanGordon praised a two-week diaper drive at city hall that collected 24,000 diapers for families in need. The Lane County Diaper Bank will distribute the donations to three local organizations. KVAL
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A Cottage Grove Police detective and officers arrested 61-year-old Cory M. Aslin on Thursday afternoon at his home amid an investigation into allegations he possessed sexually explicit images of children, and he now faces over 260 charges including 88 counts each for encouraging child sex abuse in the first and second degrees and for possession of materials depicting sexually explicit conduct of a child (the investigation is ongoing). - ➤ Before 8 a.m. Tuesday, Eugene police responded to a call on the 800 block of Pearl Street when a woman in her early forties reported being thrown to the ground; officers arrested the suspect — 29-year-old Joel Cox-Lopez — on Thursday on a charge of Assault in the Fourth Degree. KVAL

- ➤ Blessings Barbershop, a Black-owned business in Eugene now run by siblings Maliya and Malik Morgan, has served the community for over 25 years while providing a welcoming space for all hair types. - ➤ Residents near Mapleton are under immediate evacuation orders from the Lane County Sheriff's Office due to a wildfire triggering a Level 3 alert along Rice Road, Hillcrest Road, and 1st Ave — westbound lanes on OR-126 are affected with delays estimated between 20 minutes and 2 hours. KVAL
- ➤ On Wednesday just before 5 p.m., Lane County fire crews from Mohawk Valley, Eugene Springfield Fire, McKenzie Fire and Rescue, Western Lane and Lane Fire Authority deployed a third task force to help fight the ongoing Upper Applegate Fire in southern Oregon—this marks the county’s third wildfire response this season.
