ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Early Friday, a house fire broke out in the 1000 block of W. 3rd Ave in Eugene and firefighters arrived at 1:18 a.m.—they fought the blaze from outside due to heavy flames and poor visibility, found no victims or injuries, and the cause is under investigation.  KVAL

CULTURE NEWS

  • The historic Eugene Hotel building turned 100, originally built in 1916 as a hotel for dignitaries visiting University of Oregon games—later it hosted famous political figures, movie stars and music legends before converting to retirement apartments in 1983. Local residents value the building for its rich past and ongoing role in Eugene's cultural heritage.  KLCC

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • On Friday morning, Oregon Department of Forestry firefighters mopped up the Rice Road Fire that broke out Thursday near where Highways 36 and 126 meet in Mapleton—roads reopened, no buildings were damaged, power was briefly off, investigators began looking into the cause, and residents were under a Level 1 evacuation notice while the public was advised to steer clear for safety reasons.  NBC 16

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Oregon House passed a bill on Friday that limits federal activation of the National Guard by setting strict criteria and banning deployments that would leave insufficient troops for state emergencies—like wildfires and earthquakes. The law gives the governor the power to veto requests that do not meet these standards.  KVAL

HEALTH NEWS

  • Lane County approved plans to buy a building in northern Florence for an opioid treatment clinic that will use methadone and buprenorphine to help patients who otherwise travel to Eugene. The county will complete a public outreach process and finalize the purchase soon so the new clinic can serve up to 30 clients at first and 100 in its first year—reducing long commutes for treatment.  KLCC

  • Hayward Field hosted thousands of athletes from around the nation for the Nike Outdoor Nationals and USATF U20 Championships Friday, June 20th—Oregon State’s Delaney Ulrich finished second in the women's 3000-meter steeplechase at 10:47.19 while other races saw notable performances.  KVAL
