- ➤ A stolen Subaru Forester was reported on July 28 from an apartment complex on Hilyard Street and was tracked using a License Plate Reader alert to an area near West 2nd Avenue + Chambers Street before police arrested 24-year-old Joshua Ellis + recovered the vehicle for its owner on July 30. - ➤ On July 28, 2025, a Eugene man reported his Subaru Forester stolen from his apartment complex in the 1500 block of Hilyard Street and officers used license plate reader technology to track it to a spot near W. 2nd Ave. and Chambers before intercepting the vehicle—arresting 24 year old Joshua Ellis for Unlawful Use of a Vehicle on July 29, 2025. - ➤ A Eugene Lyft driver, Richard Zisser, 41, was arraigned on Wednesday after a passenger reported he offered drugs during a July 4 ride from a friend’s house in South Eugene—he allegedly shared a QR code and a menu with cocaine, molly, LSD, and ketamine and is set to return to court on September 3. - ➤ A 37 year old woman in custody died after a medical emergency Sunday night—Lane County Sheriff’s Office said a deputy found her unresponsive during a routine check at about 8:30 p.m. on July 27 and that responders performed CPR but she could not be revived. KEZI
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ EWEB completed habitat improvements on the upper McKenzie River at the Carmen-Smith Hydroelectric Project on July 30 by using helicopters to drop 2,000 tons of gravel and 20 bundles of treetops to boost spawning cover for Chinook salmon and bull trout. The work led to weekday closures at Blue Pool Trailhead + involved close collaboration with multiple agencies to ensure public safety. KVAL

- ➤ On Tuesday, the Lane County Board of Commissioners voted four to one to buy nearly 18 acres in north Springfield for the Lane Stabilization Center after a debate over how well the county communicated with property neighbors and the City of Springfield. The county will split the land & sell part of it to PeaceHealth for an inpatient mental health facility while promising to improve communication with local partners. KLCC
