- ➤ SquareOne Villages acquired the Our Redeemer Lutheran Church property on Maxwell Road yesterday to redevelop it into 44 permanently affordable homes for residents earning between 40 and 80 percent of the area median income— the site will also continue hosting a bi-weekly food pantry and free organic produce market until October. - ➤ Oregon Imagination Library received increased state funding of $2 million for the 2025-2027 biennium to mail free books to children from birth until age five; the program, with nearly 4,000 registered kids in Eugene, is backed by the public library foundation and community donors. - ➤ On August 10, Eugene Springfield Fire crews responded to two rapid grass fires—one on Deadman Ferry Road near Riverbend Hospital that burned 3/4 of an acre and another near Grenada Mobile Home Park on Daisy Street where the blaze was contained to a shed and grass—with no reported injuries as investigations continue. - ➤ Firefighters got a brush fire under control Monday afternoon in the Willow Creek area in West Eugene after dry conditions and wind helped the fire burn 3 1/2 acres and spark three spot fires, and officials confirmed no structures or injuries occurred (the cause is under investigation). KLCC

- ➤ The Lane County Sheriff’s Office asked for help to identify a black male adult, 5 feet 10 inches tall and about 180 pounds with black hair and a full beard—he is not considered a danger. KEZI
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Firefighters are battling the Aubrey Mountain Fire near Oakridge, which was reported on August 7 and is now nearly two-thirds contained — they are using an infrared flight to check for any remaining heat amid an extreme heat warning. Local authorities have reduced Highway 58 to one lane and issued a Level 1 evacuation notice so residents and travelers can prepare for any changes. KEZI
