COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Dutch Bros and Dairy Mart were honored by the American Cancer Society for raising over $1-million to fight cancer — local representatives received the recognition after a studio interview. Community members will join the Relay For Life on August 23 at Pleasant Hill High School’s track to support future efforts.  KVAL

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • In Eugene on August 8, a bystander delivered CPR to a 21-year-old bicyclist struck in a crosswalk near 8th and Hilyard after an Audi hit her — police said the 27-year-old driver remained in shock as emergency responders arrived and the investigation continues.  KVAL

CRIME NEWS

  • Eugene police reported that a deceased body was recovered from the Willamette River near the Owosso Bridge on Aug. 18 at 11:55 a.m.—the Lane County Medical Examiner retains jurisdiction—and the victim's identity was confirmed but will be withheld until the family is contacted.  KEZI

ECONOMY NEWS

  • In Eugene, Monday's average gasoline price was $3.84 per gallon—7.0 cents lower than last month but 23.9 cents higher than a year ago. A survey of 78 stations found that the cheapest price was $3.49 and the highest was $4.29.  KVAL

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A wildfire near Oakridge was fully contained Monday after causing Level 3 evacuations and closing Highway 58 when it burned 25 acres — all evacuations have been lifted while officials are still investigating the cause.  KLCC

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • ODOT is installing new right-hand turn traffic signals at the intersection of Roosevelt Boulevard and Beltline Highway this week to improve safety for pedestrians and bicyclists. The signals will be turned off at 8 p.m. on Aug. 20—flaggers will manage traffic until they become operational by Aug. 21, and drivers should expect construction noise and delays.  KEZI

HEALTH NEWS

  • A new gym for Parkinsons patients is opening in Eugene and is run by the Oregon Parkinson Warriors Foundation to provide targeted workouts + noncontact boxing and strength classes that help manage symptoms. It is located on West 11th Avenue and welcomes people with other neurological disorders.  KEZI

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • A new affordable housing project called Ollie Court is under construction at the corner of W. 13th Avenue and Chambers Street near Cesar Chavez Elementary School. Homes for Good is leading the $50 million development—built with two four-story buildings offering 81 affordable units, green space, parking, and a 12,000-square foot early-learning center—and construction will finish this fall.  NBC 16
