  • After a year of construction, Homes for Good opened Bridges on Broadway at the Red Lion Hotel downtown with 57 units of permanent supportive housing for chronically homeless residents with disabling conditions—first residents will move in next month as they receive rental and support services.  KLCC

CRIME NEWS

  • Eugene police are asking the public to help find missing endangered woman Abigail Austin, 29, who escaped from her foster care facility on August 25 after pulling off lattice work and scaling a six-foot fence — she was last seen around 12:30 p.m. wearing a gray graphic t-shirt and black shorts with no shoes and anyone with information should call the non-emergency line.  KEZI

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Bushnell University said its Eugene campus will acquire two former PeaceHealth buildings to add 125,000 square feet for new nursing education facilities—this expansion aims to boost the College of Health Professions and will be finalized before the end of September.  KLCC

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Crews are using fire breaks from the 2009 Tumblebug Fire—set in rugged terrain—to protect Sierra Pacific Industries timber land as the Emigrant Fire grows to 7,400 acres with 0% containment near Indigo Springs Campground in southeastern Lane County. Willamette National Forest areas are closed through November while weather conditions are expected to improve Thursday and Friday.  KLCC
