ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Fire crews in Eugene rescued a horse that fell into a cistern on Fox Hollow Road on Sept. 22 at about 11 a.m.—multiple units responded quickly in the Eugene Rural Fire Protection District #1 area.  KEZI

CULTURE NEWS

  • The third BRiGHT Parade will light up downtown on September 27 as volunteers are needed for staging, marshaling, dispersal and check-in—spectators can join the AfterParty while streets close from 6 p.m.  City of Eugene

ECONOMY NEWS

  • A GasBuddy survey of 78 stations showed that average gasoline prices in Eugene dropped by 6.5 cents to $4.08 per gallon over the past week, though this price remains 60.3 cents higher than last year. Prices ranged from $3.79 to $4.49—resulting in a 70-cent spread among stations.  KVAL

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Cooler days and rain have dropped fire danger in the Willamette National Forest, so the US Forest Service eased restrictions in most areas—wilderness regions like Three Sisters, Mt. Jefferson, Mt. Washington, Waldo Lake and Diamond Peak continue to have strict rules with campfires allowed only in designated rings.  KVAL
  • Cooler weather helped firefighters slow the Emigrant Fire that started August 24 from a lightning strike — containment increased to 41% as crews began repairing suppression lines and clearing fuels from key roads. The fire burned 32,391 acres southeast of Oakridge and is being closely monitored for hotspots.  NBC 16
  • The Foley Ridge Fire burning east of Springfield is 37% contained after fire activity slowed by recent cloud cover and light winds, but hotter, drier weather may increase risk. Highway 242 is closed from MP 55 to MP 76 — officials downgraded evacuation notices for nearby areas and crews are working on extending control lines.  NBC 16

  • Lane County Emergency Management is starting a six-week readiness campaign this October to help residents prepare for disasters by sharing weekly tips and providing free HELP/OK window signs — the program covers topics such as stocking up and family communication, and county officials will attend the Beat the Wave Disaster Preparedness Expo on Oct. 11 in Florence.  KEZI
  • The Oregon Department of Human Services warns SNAP users that if scammers steal benefits—one report noted over $700 lost—they will not be reimbursed since federal funds stopped replacing them in December and stolen EBT dollars rose by 50% this month. The agency shared safety tips such as using only official websites and keeping PINs secret.  NBC 16

HEALTH NEWS

  • On September 18, PacificSource notified the Oregon Health Authority that it will not renew its Lane County Medicaid contract covering more than 90,000 residents—officials said discussions are ongoing and stop-gap funding or a new coordinated care organization may be needed to ensure coverage continues uninterrupted. The move raises concerns as PacificSource seeks a sustainable way to serve its members.  KEZI

  • During Friday night’s game, Springfield High School honored former assistant coach Ty DePaoli—who battled Ewing sarcoma for four years—and remembered his work with the Sam Day Foundation before he passed away at 21 in May.
