  • Center Street Ridez is giving away a trailer at its Eugene dealership on Highway 99 to support a deserving family—owner Jolene Moore said the move reflects the dealership’s commitment to helping hard-working families during the holiday season. Community members can nominate a family until Nov. 14 and the recipient will be announced the following day.  KEZI
  • An Eugene-area man, Russ Pugh, won $15,000 on Saturday when his giant pumpkin 'Fordzilla' weighed in at 2,204.5 pounds at the National Pumpkin Weigh Off in Wheatland, Calif.—He has spent 24 years growing huge pumpkins and his win stands out among top out-of-state growers.  KVAL
  • A new center in Eugene called Facing Giants, part of Survival Revival Services, offers families a screen-free space to heal from trauma using play and sensory rooms. The program is based on personal and professional mental health experience and provides immediate tools for emotional connection — bridging the gap between therapy and everyday life.  KEZI
  • The Lane County Jewish community celebrated the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas and the release of 20 hostages at its annual event, marking a moment of mixed relief and caution. Leader Anni Katz said people felt both joy and worry about whether the ceasefire will hold — and noted concerns over rising antisemitism as masked protesters shouted outside the event.  KLCC

CRIME NEWS

  • The Lane County Sheriff's Office warned residents about ongoing scams targeting the community on Oct. 14, and Sergeant Tim Wallace explained the steps to take if someone is targeted + urging everyone to act immediately if they suspect a scam.  NBC 16

EDUCATION NEWS

  • South Hills Montessori School in Eugene almost closed this past summer because of money problems that meant teachers did not get paid right — teachers, parents and community members worked together to reopen it as a nonprofit run by teachers. The school now offers after-school childcare and has received donations to fix classrooms.  NBC 16
  • Today at McKenzie Hall, the UO Police Department is holding a drop-in self-defense class from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The course—led by Sgt. Jared Davis—is designed to help students learn simple techniques for self-protection as part of ongoing campus safety efforts.  KVAL

  • Major Tom is a 7-year-old mixed breed dog — calm, friendly, and gentle — at Greenhill Humane Society and he weighs 61 pounds. He is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccines, and he is best for families with older kids who can introduce him slowly to other pets.  KEZI
