BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Ezra Tishman (75) has not retired but downsized his rare book business after selling Aardvark Rare Books to longtime assistant Josh Hirschstein (64) on August 1, and he will continue to pursue rare literature with The Bookfinder. Hirschstein now runs the strictly online shop that houses over 2,300 rare books and historical pamphlets, and he aims to expand the collection for collectors nationwide. Eugene Weekly
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ City of Eugene Wastewater Regulatory Services, BRING, and Lane County Fleet Services will host the free Under the Hood: Oil Change and Spill Prevention Workshop on November 15 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.—young drivers aged 17 to 22 will learn safe oil changes and spill prevention techniques from professional mechanics and receive a certificate, educational materials, and an oil change kit. - ➤ EWEB conducted a full-scale spill drill with emergency responders on the McKenzie River to test readiness for protecting drinking water for over 200,000 residents—more than a dozen agencies took part. The exercise used bright orange booms to guide any oil away from water skimmers. KEZI
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Oregonians are urged by Governor Tina Kotek to join earthquake preparedness events starting today with the Great Oregon ShakeOut drill at 10:16 a.m., and continuing with the Camp-In from Oct. 17 to 19 which offers emergency planning, survival activities, and new video games to teach youth how to be prepared. - ➤ Snowfall led the Oregon Department of Transportation to close the west side of McKenzie Pass on OR 242 near OR 126 and Dee Wright Observatory, and travelers are urged not to bypass locked gates. The east side remains open until at least Nov 6—conditions may change quickly. KEZI

- ➤ On Oct. 15, the Oregon Health Insurance Marketplace launched its upgraded Window Shopping tool to help residents compare 2026 health plans at OregonHealthCare.gov—allowing users to verify doctor and prescription coverage with personalized estimates available in English and Spanish. The tool offers enhanced plan comparisons, expanded benefit details and updated savings estimates as residents prepare for open enrollment starting Nov. 1. KVAL
