- ➤ Ninkasi Brewing opened The Annex near the UO campus on Oct 14 to serve college students and community members with a large venue for game days, DJ nights, and other events (the 2,200-square-foot space also hosts food trucks and a to-go outlet). - ➤ Downtown Eugene will host the First Friday ArtWalk on Nov. 7 at the Farmers Market Pavilion with free gallery access – the event features powwow-style dance performances by the Soliz Family from 6 to 8 p.m. and a marketplace with Native American arts and crafts makers. KVAL
- ➤ The University of Oregon and local fans are reviving the Grateful Dead legacy by hosting the Grateful Ducks event Saturday at Autzen Stadium—fans are encouraged to wear tie-dye while Nike, Class Trip and the university unveil a special apparel collection to mark over 60 years of connection with the band in Eugene. - ➤ Lane County Parks is working with Friends of Buford Park, Mt. Pisgah, and Rivers to Ridges partners to conduct a prescribed burn in the South Bottomlands of Howard Buford Recreation Area today to improve prairie and oak savanna habitats. Trail 5 south of the arboretum and all trails in the South Bottomlands are closed until noon—visitors may experience smoky conditions and the presence of fire crews. KEZI

- ➤ Eugene Mayor Kaarin Knudson was diagnosed with triple-negative breast cancer two days before she was sworn in, and she underwent surgery plus four months of chemotherapy after noticing a lump near her sternum. She worked full-time as mayor during her treatment and is now healthy and cancer free. NBC 16
- ➤ Lane County, Eugene — and Springfield are preparing for their annual leaf collection to prevent flooding, with Lane County picking up leaves from paved curb-and-gutter streets on Nov. 3, Eugene crews cleaning designated sections on Nov. 8, and Springfield residents required to bag leaves for pick-up on Dec. 1. - ➤ Lane County marked one year of its deflection program at an open house where officials reported that 264 people enrolled but only 23 graduated so far—more participants are set to complete the program soon to avoid charges by finishing within 30 days. District Attorney Parosa said the program now offers housing, wrap-around services, and drug treatment plans to help keep low-level crimes off records. NBC 16

- ➤ Medicare Open Enrollment is underway from Oct. 15 through Dec.7 as seniors can get free help to choose a plan for 2026 through the Senior Health Insurance Benefits Assistance (SHIBA) program. - ➤ It has been three weeks since the government shutdown and lawmakers remain divided over whether to extend ACA subsidies that help Oregonians pay for private health insurance – experts warn that if Congress does not act, over 140,000 residents could face monthly premium increases up to $456 when new plans start in November.
