- ➤ Connected Lane County has launched its 'Ready, Set, Thrive' campaign to help youth aged 14 to 24 set school and job goals and overcome challenges caused by poverty. The nonprofit aims to raise $100,000 by Dec 31 — a target to support nearly 35% of local youth living in poverty — and plans to work with local businesses for support. KEZI

- ➤ The 4J School District in Eugene has adopted a new cellphone ban policy following Gov. Tina Kotek's executive order, and starting Jan. 1 all public school students must keep their devices stored away during school hours. The policy calls for disciplinary action for violations—but it will not lead to suspension or expulsion. NBC 16
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Officials said that 75,000 Lane County residents will soon know if their food benefits for November will post because of the government shutdown, and they warned that missing these benefits could hurt people's health. Local food banks have seen a 20% increase in visitors and are asking for donations while health experts stress that even short breaks in nutrition could harm children—raising community worries. KVAL

- ➤ Eugene Mayor Kaarin Knudson announced she is now cancer free after fighting triple negative breast cancer during her early months in office—she shared her experience with KLCC to stress the need for early detection. KLCC
- ➤ The Oregon Recovery and Treatment Center opened its third building on Garfield Street on Oct. 23 — to offer better opioid recovery care in the Eugene-Springfield area — and now gives residents a closer way to get help.
