- ➤ Willamalane will open its largest-ever Holiday Marketplace on Friday, Nov. 7 at Bob Keefer Center in Springfield as one of the first holiday markets in the area. The two-day event will run Friday from 12 to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will offer gifts, treats, live music and food from over 100 local vendors — including food trucks like Most Wanted Espresso, Rattlesnake BBQ and Las Comadres. - ➤ Greenhill Humane Society introduced Poptart, a sweet adoptable pet looking for a forever home in Eugene—residents can learn more about his adoption process at Greenhill. KVAL
- ➤ The Eugene Parks Foundation launched the Agents of Discovery app that offers six augmented reality games in several Eugene parks to bring more students outside & help them learn about history, the environment, and culture. The foundation plans to add more sites based on feedback from the community. KLCC
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Eugene musician Lea Jones died after a long battle with cancer — he was well-known in the local music scene and had recently released a re-recording of a 1980s song while also producing the documentary Vietnam: An Inner View. KLCC
- ➤ At the McDonald Theatre Sunday night, Eugene’s 72-Hour Horror Film Competition marked its 10-year anniversary with 41 teams making three-minute horror films that used a tape measure and a set line. The audience picked 'Something New' for a $666 prize — judges awarded 'Chore Day' $1,134, and filmmakers praised the community support. KLCC
- ➤ Eugene’s Riverfront District included design elements that honored local Black pioneers and indigenous culture — featuring engraved granite tiles and art installations that celebrated the Willamette River’s ecology. City officials said the project connected residents with their past and more features would be revealed soon. KLCC

- ➤ Superintendents from the Eugene-Springfield school districts will meet Friday at City Club of Eugene to discuss plans for the current school year amid funding challenges and test score concerns—attendees can join in person or watch a live stream while enjoying a Halloween costume theme. NBC 16
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Brian Obie’s work in the historic Fifth Street District helped shape Eugene’s new Riverfront District as city officials and developers planned to expand retail and restaurant spaces into a mixed-use neighborhood. He explained that the urban village model, where people live, work and play together, guided the project’s direction. KLCC
- ➤ The westbound OR 126B Main Street Bridge in Springfield will close for three weeks in December for essential repairs and upgrades that aim to improve safety—traffic, pedestrians, and freight vehicles will be redirected via the South A Street Bridge and other alternate routes. KEZI
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The Oregon Health Authority said an Oregon resident tested positive for E. coli after eating unpasteurized aged cheese from Twin Sisters Creamery in Washington—two additional cases in Washington were linked to indirect exposure. Samples of the cheese were tested and symptoms in all cases began between September 5 and 16. KLCC
REAL ESTATE NEWS
- ➤ In Eugene’s Riverfront District, completed market-rate apartments and a park contrast with plans for affordable housing and retail spaces—Jim Atkins noted that a 75-unit affordable project has received state approval and will begin construction next year.
