COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The City of Eugene Parks and Open Space Division announced that a new 25-acre park called Willow Bend Park—located west of John Day Drive on the former River Ridge Golf Course—will open in late November. The park will feature a paved parking lot, half-basketball court, walking paths and river access that will boost local recreation and provide nearby residents with better access to nature.  KVAL
  • Chuck Kesey, co-founder of Springfield Creamery and co-creator of Nancy’s Probiotic Foods, died at home in Eugene on Thursday at age 87—he helped launch live probiotic yogurt that changed healthy food practices. His family said he built a lasting local business and a memorial service will be announced soon.  KVAL

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today, Eugene Airport reminds travelers to check with their airlines because the FAA’s action canceled hundreds of flights Friday and will push air traffic reduction to 10% by November 14—passengers should verify flight details before arriving at the airport.  KEZI
  • Oregonians will receive a tax surplus credit on their 2025 state income tax returns filed in 2026 as a result of a confirmed $1.41 billion surplus for the 2023-2025 biennium—only those who file both 2024 and 2025 returns are eligible and the credit equals 9.863 percent of the 2024 tax liability.  KEZI
  • Lane County officials announced that $200,000 in emergency funds will support food access and help cover rent, food, and utility costs for families affected by immigration enforcement—funds that will go to Food for Lane County and local non-profits assisting those without SNAP benefits.  KEZI

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • The 38th-day government shutdown has paused new and renewed flood insurance under the National Flood Insurance Program — prompting Eugene realtors to steer buyers to private insurers that charge about $300 to $400 a month. Realtors warn that these higher costs could make it tougher for first-time homebuyers in flood-prone areas.  NBC 16

  • No. 6 Oregon will play Iowa today at 3:30 p.m. on CBS and try to keep its 10-game road win streak alive—each team aims for a win that could boost its playoff chances. Oregon also faces more tough games soon—making this Big Ten contest a key part of its busy schedule.  KLCC
