COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ On November 9, the Fill Your Pantry event at Lane Events Center gave families fresh local food and Pantry Bucks ($100 for SNAP households) during a government shutdown. Dan Rousseau (FOOD for Lane County) said state efforts to add federal dollars to SNAP accounts helped make sure families could get food for winter. KEZI
- ➤ Willow Bend Park, a 25-acre space that used to be River Ridge Golf Course, will open later this month with paved parking, a half-basketball court, walking paths, and pedestrian access to the Willamette River—future development west of Delta Road will include community input. KLCC
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Gasoline prices in Eugene fell by 5.3 cents per gallon in the past week to average $3.52 but remain 11.7 cents higher than last year—yesterday the cheapest station charged $3.09 while the priciest cost $4.19. Prices statewide and nationally changed slightly due to supply issues and refinery problems. KVAL
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Eugene’s Urban Forestry Department began planting trees on street rights-of-way to boost canopy coverage and meet the 30% target by 2040. The team will plant 3,000 trees per year & is using mapping and federal, state and city funding to guide work in areas with low tree equity. KLCC
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Lane Transit District launched the Transit app to give riders real-time bus tracking, route information, and detour alerts in Lane County using a 2021 federal grant. The app lets users report issues and view feedback leaderboards + it is available for download in the app store. KLCC
- ➤ The CAHOOTS program ended on April 7 when the city canceled its contract with White Bird Clinic due to budget cuts and state rule changes—former workers quickly organized to seek funding to reopen a similar crisis response service model in Eugene. KVAL
- ➤ Two local power providers reported they will not disconnect customers for the rest of the year amid the government shutdown and will maintain their winter protections and income-based programs—State Senator Deb Patterson sent a letter urging the Public Utility Commission to add more safeguards for families with overdue bills.
