ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ A report from Parker Strategy Group released in September showed that the University of Oregon contributed nearly $3.7 billion to the state’s economy — roughly 1 percent of Oregon’s overall economic activity. The analysis found UO supported more than 21,000 jobs and generated over $238 million in tax revenue. KVAL
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ On October 21, Bushnell University acquired two properties formerly owned by PeaceHealth at the University District to expand its College of Health Professions. The 125,000 square feet addition includes an 88,000 square foot building for clinical use and a 37,000 square foot building for expanding nursing and lab sciences — the largest acquisition in the university’s 130-year history, and PeaceHealth will lease back part of the space until its new facility is ready. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Following the end of the government shutdown, the Oregon Department of Human Services announced that SNAP food assistance is returning to normal. Those approved on or about November 7 will receive their benefits today — December benefits are set as scheduled while updates are awaited from federal partners. NBC 16
- ➤ Springfield City Club will host a program on Thursday, Nov. 20 at Roaring Rapids Pizza — 4006 Franklin Boulevard, Glenwood — to present the progress of the SUB McKenzie River Water Supply Project. Greg Miller, SUB’s Director of Water Engineering and Operations, will share key updates that aim to secure Springfield’s future water supply. KVAL
- ➤ U.S. Senator Wyden toured the Food For Lane County warehouse in Eugene yesterday — Executive Director Carolyn Stein and other advocates discussed how federal programs have impacted local food banks after SNAP benefits were restored; a full interview with Wyden is expected later today. KVAL

- ➤ Eugene residents are invited to vote in a poll asking if they expect higher healthcare premiums—this survey tracks concerns about rising insurance costs. NBC 16
- ➤ The Oregon Health Authority reported that if exchange premium subsidies for affordable healthcare are not extended, Oregonians could face premium tax credit losses of about $1,000 per month. Costs vary by household & a single father might pay around $2,000 more per year while older couples in eastern Oregon may face increases over $25,000 per year, & the agency advises residents to talk with insurance agents about their options.
