- ➤ Today marks the start of Egan Warming Centers' season as temperatures drop. A 50% funding cut is forcing St. Vincent de Paul to cut staff and scale back shelter sites at locations like the Lane Events Center and a spot on Highway 99 N in Eugene—while a temporary shelter remains available in Springfield. ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Firefighters responded to a blaze at Woodland Creek Apartments in West Eugene on Friday, November 14 and quickly contained the fire to one room when engine 10 arrived in three minutes from Bailey Hill station. No injuries were reported and law enforcement also attended for unrelated activity while the cause is under investigation. KEZI
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ University of Oregon produced $3.7 billion in economic contributions and supported over 21,500 jobs in 2024, according to a new report (released Thursday) that showed it edged Oregon State University by about $200 million. University officials will present the report to lawmakers next week as they address a $29 million budget deficit. KLCC
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Bethel School District in Eugene announced that Shasta Middle School will close in June due to rising maintenance costs and falling enrollment in a building from the 1950s amid a $1.8 million shortfall—this change is expected to save $1.4 million annually. About 250 students will be reassigned to other schools while teachers are moved to available classrooms to manage class sizes. KLCC

- ➤ The Siuslaw National Forest said that the Homestead trailhead and part of the Sweet Creek Trail near Mapleton are closed because a vehicle accident damaged the boardwalk and the emergency closure will last until September unless repairs are finished sooner + workers and equipment may be seen nearby. - ➤ After a court injunction allowed FAA grants to be signed, Eugene Airport will begin a $21.5 million expansion of Concourse A in spring that adds 7,000 square feet to an unused connector bridge and improves accessibility—offering a safer, more efficient passenger experience. The airport lost $400 thousand in energy funding and plans to work with state and federal agencies to secure additional grants for a new concourse that may be built in about seven years. NBC 16
