- ➤ Local businesses and ski resorts are dealing with a slow winter start as a lack of snow delays ski trips and shifts operating hours. Berg’s Ski Shop and Sweetvine Cafe are planning uncertain adjustments as they hope for conditions to improve later in December (a pattern from last year). KEZI
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Eugene Police Department is hosting a 911 call taker career info night to guide those interested in emergency communications. The event is set for Wednesday, Dec. 17 at 6:00 p.m. at the Emergency Services Training Center (1705 W. Second Ave.). NBC 16
- ➤ New applications for homeowner help after the 2020 Labor Day fires must be in by the end of December. Homeowners who saw damage can get money to repair their homes or purchase a new one. KVAL
- ➤ Oregon Parks and Recreation Department invites public input on reservation rules, fee waivers and special access passes that limit refunds and restrict veteran and foster family access to Oregon residents. A virtual hearing (Dec. 15, 5:30 p.m.) will be held before the updates are reviewed in February 2026. KVAL
- ➤ The Lane County Board of Commissioners will hold a hearing on Dec. 9 to decide if trash hauler Sanipac must pay fees after its diversions cost the county (5M annually), a change that could lead to higher trash bills for residents. Eugene Weekly

- ➤ Officials advise residents to avoid handling sick or dead birds as highly pathogenic avian influenza spreads statewide, urging people to report sightings (via the ODFW hotline) and follow safe disposal steps while the risk to humans remains low. NBC 16
REAL ESTATE NEWS
- ➤ Crews broke ground on Monday for Whiteaker Commons, a 120-unit housing complex at 5th and Adams in Whiteaker. The project, offering studios, one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments with resident social services, targets incomes up to 60% of the area median—financed by state and city funds, with completion expected in 18 months. - ➤ Eugene developer Dan Neal has proposed a 128-unit apartment project in Springfield near the I-105 – Mohawk interchange to help ease the tight rental market.
