- ➤ On Wednesday, police hosted their annual holiday dinner at the Saint Vincent de Paul Lindholm Center on Highway 99 near Elmira Road; about 200 community members were served by officers and staff — Texas Roadhouse sponsored most of the meal for the third year. KEZI
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Oregon’s unemployment rate rose from 5% in August to 5.2% in September — after a 43-day federal shutdown delayed the data release on Thursday. The state added 3,300 jobs while its labor force grew by nearly 18,000 people. KLCC
- ➤ Local ski rental shops in Eugene are reporting slower business as December's warm weather delayed snow over the Cascades — owners expect improved conditions in January and February to boost local earnings. NBC 16
- ➤ Business owners in Eugene say that warm weather has delayed snowfall, slowing ski season sales and gear updates for local rental shops. Meteorologists predict better snow in January and February, which could help the winter business bounce back. KVAL
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ At a 4J board meeting on Wednesday, the district proposed cuts of over $2.3 million for technology, training and admin to address a $30 million shortfall from lower enrollment and higher costs. It said Family School might be co-located and will present Phase 2 of cuts on Jan. 7. KLCC

- ➤ The City of Eugene and Lane County have planned a speed limit drop on River Road from 45 mph to 35 mph between Azalea Drive and Beacon Drive — a move approved by the state panel after a fatal accident last year sparked safety concerns. Residents welcome the measure for slowing traffic. KEZI
