COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Egan Warming Center ended 11 nights of shelter service and asked for cleanup volunteers—help at the Lane Events Center occurred Tuesday and will continue at the Zone on Hwy 99 today from 4:00-6:30 p.m.  KLCC

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Bi-Mart announced it will close five Cascade Farm and Outdoor stores this spring to strengthen its retail presence in the Northwest (the Hood River store will convert to a Bi-Mart and a new location will open in Seaside while clearance sales are held).  KEZI
  • BRING Recycling in Eugene offers Lane County small businesses up to $1,500 in grants for energy-efficient upgrades, with applications closing in one week. Today, BRING and Mayor Kaarin Knudson will honor Blue Lotus Chai to spotlight the program’s impact.  KEZI

CULTURE NEWS

  • Maria Telesheva, a Eugene teenager who received the Jack Kent Cooke Young Artist Award last year, was featured on an NPR Tiny Desk Concert. She will perform with her father this Friday, Jan. 30 at North Eugene High School at 7 p.m.  KLCC

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Lane County asks residents to vote on whether to invest in an indoor multi-use facility for community events — cast your vote through the online poll available today.  NBC 16
  • Tax filing season is open for federal and state returns and eligible Oregon taxpayers may get a revenue kicker that refunds nearly 9.9 percent of their 2024 tax liability (Liberty Tax manager Terry Metteer explained the benefit). Taxpayers are advised to use the state’s calculator to check their credit.  KEZI
  • The county extended the deadline to file a Confidential Personal Property Return for businesses to March 16 because March 15 falls on a Sunday, and business owners can get free help at the Assessment and Taxation Office (125 E. 8th Avenue, Eugene) Monday through Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  KVAL
