- ➤ Greenhill Humane Society rescued 17 cats from a Marcola property after their owner died on Feb. 13 (38 cats have now been rescued overall) and the animals are receiving care before adoption. KLCC
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ State climatologist Larry O’Neill said Oregon’s record low snowpack of 2.9 inches is not expected to rise before the season typically ends on April 1. Experts warn that low snowfall may cause water shortages for farming and a longer wildfire season (worsened by warm, dry weather). KLCC
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Drivers in Eugene and Springfield report a bumpy ride on the newly renovated Main Street Bridge, which was repaved and had its bike ramp rebuilt earlier this year. ODOT is investigating the rough surface — they plan to update the public with next steps soon. KEZI
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The Oregon Health Authority urges parents & caregivers to update their children's vaccination records by Feb. 25 to avoid school and child care disruptions. County health departments have sent reminder letters to help families meet the deadline. KEZI
- ➤ PeaceHealth began layoffs affecting more than 150 skilled caregivers (including up to four hospice nurses in Lane County) as part of its third round of staffing cuts in the last nine months. The hospital system said the realignment aims to meet changing community needs and reduce costs. KLCC
