CULTURE NEWS

  • The Eugene Symphony announced that internationally renowned conductor Alex Prior will serve as its new music director beginning with the 2025/26 season—this appointment aligns with the orchestra's 60th anniversary. EDUCATION NEWS

  • SMART Reading and SELCO Community Credit Union are teaming up for their second annual community book drive in honor of National Reading Month to collect new and gently-used children’s books for local kids — donation boxes are at Eugene and Springfield SELCO branches until March 31, 2025.  NBC 16

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Lane County is leading a new mattress recycling program that lets anyone drop off old mattresses for free at St. Vincent de Paul to keep local streets from becoming cluttered. The program follows a state law that enables recycling of at least 75% of each mattress—saving energy and conserving water.  KEZI
  • OSU and ODF will host a workshop on April 11, 2025 at 9 a.m. at Alton Baker Park to train landowners on spotting and managing Emerald Ash Borer infestations in ash trees—cost is $10 per person.  KVAL

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City officials in Springfield plan to annex 21 acres of land in Glenwood to open up new development and job opportunities. The council will vote on the change on April 7—planning for the area will take years before new projects begin.  KEZI
