EDUCATION NEWS

  • Eugene 4J School District announced that additional cuts of $10M to $20M may be needed for next year's budget after already planning a $30M reduction through 269 job eliminations and program cuts (details are expected at the March 31 meeting).  KLCC
  • Lane Community College will cut 20.5 positions and two academic programs to save $4.2 million and allow current students to finish their degrees; the board will hold public comment on March 31 and vote in June — the college aims to preserve its educational focus.  KLCC

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Umpqua National Forest has lifted the closure order for the road to Umpqua Hot Springs after a winter storm — visitors are reminded the site is day-use only and that the trailhead will transition to cashless parking with America the Beautiful passes beginning April 1.  KLCC

HEALTH NEWS

  • PeaceHealth is moving ahead with its planned transition to ApolloMD to manage Lane County emergency rooms despite Governor Kotek’s request to delay the process. The provider says it will add temporary doctors and launch a public dashboard to show ER safety metrics for patient care.  KLCC

SPORTS NEWS

  • Oregon advanced to the second round with a 70-60 win over Virginia Tech on Friday, led by Fiso's 22 points and an 18-0 third-quarter run. The Ducks will face Texas today.  KLCC
