ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On April 3 at 2:23 a.m., state police responded to a head-on crash on Highway 126 near Florence where a Eugene man—Matthew Jacob Decker—died when his Ford T-350 collided with a white Freightliner semi-truck and a 64-year-old Veneta man suffered minor injuries as crews kept the highway closed for about five hours.  KEZI

CRIME NEWS

  • Eugene police arrested a man in his 30s named Deryk Mitchell Johnson on April 2 after he allegedly stabbed a 34 year old Florida man at Skinner Butte Lookout while bystanders aided the victim, and Johnson now faces charges of first degree assault, unlawful use of a weapon, and second degree criminal mischief—charges linked to both the stabbing and damage he inflicted during his arrest.  KEZI

EDUCATION NEWS

  • At its April 2 meeting, the Lane Community College Board approved a 3.1% tuition increase for the 2025-26 academic year, raising resident students’ cost from $144.50 to $149 per credit hour effective Summer Term 2025. (The increase aims to cover rising operational costs) (and inflation.)  KVAL

HEALTH NEWS

  • Dr. Pilar Bradshaw of Eugene Pediatric Associates advises new parents that frequent nighttime feedings are normal and cautions that falling asleep while feeding can be unsafe (parents should rest when their baby naps and ask for support). She explained that using simple tips and keeping the baby's sleep area clear can reduce risks and help manage sleep deprivation.  NBC 16
