CRIME NEWS

  • Families of missing persons in eastern Lane County saw progress today when state funding ensured that human skull fragments—found 20 months ago and linked to at least three unresolved cases—will be sent for DNA testing at Bodhi Technology.  KEZI

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A NOAA study released on Dec 26 found that dam operations are harming threatened fish such as steelhead and Chinook salmon in the Willamette River Valley. Officials will lower water levels and add fish passage improvements at key dams including Lookout Point and Cougar Dam—measures that may also cut hydropower output as they work to protect native fish.  Eugene Weekly

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On April 9, 2025, Eugene Police Department said its Drone as First Responder program received a FAA waiver to operate 200' Beyond Visual Line of Sight, expanding drone coverage by 40% with a single operator. The program, funded by a Community Safety Payroll Tax, will let drone pilots respond faster to emergencies — including locating lost children and finding fleeing suspects.  KVAL
  • USPS workers rallied outside the downtown post office on April 8 to protest expected staff cuts that critics say may lead to privatization and slower deliveries, raising the risk of higher prices for mail.  KEZI
