HIV Alliance, SquareOne Villages and the City of Eugene announced a partnership to open a new safe sleep site called Rainbow Corner on City property to serve individuals receiving HIV services and experiencing homelessness.

The six-unit site—built with privately donated funds and managed by Taylor Christianson—featured pallet shelters, a community space, a kitchen and shower/restroom facilities and acted as a bridge to affordable housing.

Eugene police arrested Levi Rosenthal Eva, 18, on April 16 in connection with a March 3 murder and shooting incident near east 23rd Avenue and Willamette Street— Eva faces charges of first- and second-degree murder, first-degree assault, first-degree robbery and unlawful use of a weapon as detectives continue their investigation.

CAHOOTS union members and former employees in Eugene are planning new ways to keep the decades-old crisis response service running after the city ended its contract—White Bird Clinic said it lacks funds to provide full mobile crisis care after nearly 17,000 calls were handled last year. Community members will decide if Eugene can still deliver adequate mental health care without CAHOOTS.

At a city council meeting in Eugene, 18-year-old Victoria Acosta explained that closing the CAHOOTS program took away a vital support that once helped her in hard times — she fears many young people may now miss out on needed help.

The city ended its long partnership with White Bird Clinic after issues with funding and staffing emerged.
