- ➤ On April 22nd, 2025, community members and the Eugene Police gathered to honor fallen Officer Chris Kilcullen (shot during a traffic stop in Springfield in 2011) and remember his respectful service. His sacrifice was deeply felt by his colleagues and the local community. KVAL
- ➤ The Eugene Area Chamber of Commerce will host its annual Community Solutions Summit tomorrow at Venue 252 — located at 252 Lawrence St, where speakers from Headstart, YMCA, Eugene Airport and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce will discuss strategies to add 1,500 child care slots needed in Lane County. - ➤ Striking Bigfoot workers picketed a beverage trade show at Venue 252 in downtown Eugene on April 22 as part of a more than 200-day strike over pension plans and retirement fund changes. They protested Bigfoot's decision to shift retirement funds to market-based accounts and to stop recognizing the Teamsters union. NBC 16

- ➤ J.H. Baxter’s president, Georgia Baxter-Krause, was sentenced on Tuesday to 90 days in jail and fined $1.5 million for pleading guilty to hazardous waste and Clean Air Act violations that released dioxins in the Bethel neighborhood—residents voiced anger at the sentence—and the company now remains in caretaker status with pending civil suits. - ➤ The Willamette National Forest started prescribed burns this week on Dead Mountain’s High Timber sale area and on Buckhead Mountain near Oakridge and Westfir and will continue operations through the month, weather permitting. Drivers are advised to slow and use headlights when they see smoke—officials say the burns reduce overgrown vegetation and protect communities and infrastructure from wildfires. KLCC
- ➤ EWEB customers voted to award a $50K Greenpower Grant to SquareOne Villages. The grant will fund the purchase and installation of a 172 KW solar system at the Rosa Village Co-op in the Trainsong Neighborhood—powering 52 homes and a common house and lowering future energy costs. KVAL
- ➤ On Tuesday, Georgia Baxter-Krause, president of J.H. Baxter, was sentenced to 90 days in jail and fined $1.5 million by a court in Eugene for violating environmental laws—she pleaded guilty to hazardous waste and Clean Air Act violations. Residents in the Bethel neighborhood remain angry over the release of 29 chemicals as the company stays in caretaker status. KVAL
