- ➤ On April 27 at around 2 a.m., three males burgled Blue Sky Market in McKenzie Bridge by throwing a large rock through the door and returning later the same night, and following social media tips and surveillance video evidence, Lane County deputies arrested all three suspects on burglary, criminal mischief and theft charges—one of whom is 18-year-old Anders Miley Disla while the others are juveniles. - ➤ Over 100 University of Oregon student workers began striking on April 28 in front of Johnson Hall to demand livable wages, a fair grievance process, and timely pay. The strike — representing nearly 4,000 workers from several campus facilities — continues as the union attends a mediation session today. KVAL
- ➤ Eugene School District 4J is offering a free summer program for incoming kindergarteners at Howard and Chavez Elementary—kids will practice reading and counting and parents can access resources. A kindergarten welcome event will be held on May 16 at El Camino Del Rio Elementary, and the program runs from June 30 to August 7. KVAL

- ➤ Today, City Manager Sarah Medary will present the 2025-2027 budget at City Hall at 5:30 p.m. and the plan cuts nearly $18-million from departments relying on the general fund—reducing funds for fire and EMS, police, and the library while calling for the closure of Amazon Pool and Sheldon Community Center to address an $11.5-million annual gap.
