- ➤ Willamalane Park and Recreation District has been named a finalist for the 2026 National Gold Medal Award for Excellence in Park and Recreation Management and will compete for the Grand Plaque honor on Sept. 30. KVAL
- ➤ KLCC hosted EWEB’s emergency management specialist Jenny Demaris today to answer community questions on disaster preparedness. She explained how residents can store tap water in food grade containers, rotate supplies every six months, and use a two-bucket system (designed for sanitation during emergencies) for managing waste. - ➤ The Hult Center hosts Juliette Ojeda as Sophie in the Mamma Mia 25th Anniversary Tour that began May 6 and runs through Sunday, May 10. Tickets are on sale (starting at $44) with the production highlighting a special mother-daughter theme. KVAL

- ➤ A Eugene 4th grade teacher and Mapleton School District are finalists for the OnPoint Prize for Excellence in Education Community Builder Awards, aimed at funding projects that enhance school learning spaces. - ➤ The University of Oregon said its Student Rec Center resumed normal operations after a false swatting call prompted a brief lockdown on Tuesday — officials found no threat. KVAL

- ➤ On May 1, EWEB transferred about 2,500 McKenzie Valley electric accounts to Lane Electric Cooperative after nearly a year of planning; the shift allows local residents to vote for their board and lets EWEB focus on servicing urban customers in Eugene. NBC 16
- ➤ ODHS Self-Sufficiency Programs and Oregon Eligibility Partnership are relocating from the McKenzie Center at 2885 Chad Drive to new offices at 2101 West 11th Avenue in Eugene and 101 30th Street in Springfield by May 11. The move will allow more staff to see clients (program managers said). KVAL
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ PeaceHealth has agreed to renew its contract with Eugene Emergency Physicians to staff Lane County emergency departments (RiverBend and Cottage Grove) while continuing employment at its Florence hospital. State leaders met with executives and set a deadline of Friday, May 8 to ensure changes prevent staffing disruptions and restore trust. KLCC
